An on-grid, or grid-tied, solar system is connected to the public electricity grid. It is the most popular choice for homes, offices, factories and schools that already have a reliable grid connection and want to lower their power bills.
The system uses solar panels and a grid-tied inverter. During the day, the power from the panels runs your appliances first. If the panels produce more than you use, the extra power can go to the grid, depending on the net metering rules in your area. At night, you draw power from the grid as usual.
The biggest advantage is that there are no batteries, which keeps the cost lower and maintenance simple. Most of the investment is recovered through savings on your electricity bill over the years.
Keep in mind that a standard on-grid system shuts down during a grid power cut for safety reasons. If you also need backup during outages, ask about a hybrid system that adds batteries.
Rules for net metering and approvals differ by state and electricity company, so check the current process before installation. Our team can guide you from system sizing to paperwork.
An on-grid solar system works along with the electricity grid. Use solar power during the day and reduce your monthly electricity bill.
